I believe the equation is one.simple. word. CONNECTION.

CONNECTION = a trusting business relationship

The way to build connection is through vulnerability. Vulnerbaulity is openness. Everyone has a story of why they do what they do, why they own the business they own and why their passion is what their passion is. The key to winning in business, is to connect to others by sharing your story.

My business story starts at the age of 13. I was at my cousin Kim’s house, watching TLC’s Trading Spaces on the TV in her bedroom. We both lay in her bed, capiivated by the marathon of continued episodes. Interior designers were paired with two sets of neighbors. They had one weekend and no more than $2000 to redesign one room in each other’s homes. Laughing. Crying. Jumping for joy.

Crying. JOY?! I did not understand. Therefore, I was intrigued.

What hooked me to this show, and to the host, Paige Davis, was the simple fact that I was watching people love their homes, but I did not have a home. As a constant runaway, this was a concept that I latched onto. I wanted to give people something that I never had- a home. There it was. I decided I would be an interior designer. I have been working in the field for 15 years and that passion is still deep-rooted.

I believe that when you are passionate about what you do, people want a piece of that passion. Share your story with your potential and current clientele. The ability to be open and share an initimate part of you, will instantly connect you, build a bond, and give you the KNOW, LIKE, TRUST without passing your business card around a room or drinking together at an after hours event. This is the real meaning of business.
